Services and Clinics
Practice Nurses
Jackie Crawford (RGN) and Fiona Cook (BA Hons, RGN) are
our Practice Nurses who are available at the Health Centre
by appointment on:
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday 2.00pm - 5.30pm
Thursday 8.30am - 12.00pm and 12.30pm - 2.00pm
Mondays / Fridays 8.30am - 12.30pm
The Practice Nurses have special skills and training
in heart disease and strokes, asthma and diabetes. They
can give advice on holiday injections and carry out blood
tests, wound dressings, stitch removal, blood pressure
checks, vaccinations, cervical smears and healthy living
advice.
Healthcare Assistant
Katheryn Hope, our healthcare assistant,
holds a clinic for blood tests on Mondays, 8.00am - 10.30am
and for blood tests and E.C.G's on Tuesdays 8.30am - 11.00am
and Wednesdays 8.30am - 11.00am.
Antenatal/Maternity
Dr Dudgeon and Dr Llewellyn provide maternity services
and like to see patients as early as possible in the
pregnancy.
In addition the midwife's antenatal clinic is held alternate
Tuesday mornings.
Midwife services are provided by the
Moorland Midwifery Group Practice, which consists of four
midwives who give care to all pregnant mothers in the Moretonhampstead,
Bovey Tracey and Chudleigh area. The Group run Education
for Parenthood classes, giving you the chance to meet other
midwives in the group and the health visitors. Information
on other classes such as Aqua natal classes and Yoga is
available.
The Health Promotion Clinic
Checks and clinics for the following are held regularly,
as appropriate, by Dr Dudgeon (Monday 3.00pm to 5:00pm)
and Dr Llewellyn (Tuesday 2.00pm to 4:00pm) and supported
by the Practice Nurse, Jackie Crawford:

Minor Surgery
Certain minor surgery procedures can be performed by the
doctors on the premises. Alternatively it may be possible
for you to attend at the Moretonhampstead Community Hospital
where Dr Dudgeon, Dr Rogers or Dr Llewellyn will perform
the procedure. This may be more convenient and will save
considerable waiting time at the General Hospital.
District Nursing Team
The District nursing team consists of Helen Hughes (Team
Leader), Sheila Hutchings and Simon Cox.
The District Nurses provide skilled nursing care in
a range of settings for those who are assessed as requiring
it. The Nurses are based at the Health Centre and are available
between 9.00am and 4.30pm. They can be contacted by leaving
a message with the receptionist and when the Health Centre
is closed messages can be left at the Moretonhampstead
Community Hospital
(01647 440217) for them.
Health Visitor
Sue Cunningham is the Practice Health Visitor and she works
mainly with families with young children, the elderly
and patients with special needs. She is involved with
all aspects of Health education including regular checks
for children until they are 5 years of age.
Child Health
We consider your child's health is very important. Advice
is always available. The Health Visitor and Dr Llewellyn
run our Child Development Clinics. There are regular
checks for the under 5's. Our Health Visitor, Sue Cunningham,
may be seen at the Child Development Clinic and at other
times by arrangement.
Child Development Clinic: Alternate Tuesdays 2.00pm - 4.00pm
Childhood Immunisation: Appointments via reception.
Speech Therapist
Maria Howarth is responsible for assessment, diagnosis
and treatment of communication difficulties for all ages.
She may be contacted by leaving a message with the receptionist.
Chiropody and Podiatry
The Podiatry department offers a service at Moretonhampstead Hospital to all those in need who are suffering from certain chronic diseases. Ask the receptionist for an application form.
Physiotherapy
The physiotherapist is Elaine McMahon who is available
at Moretonhampstead Community Hospital every Monday and
Thursday morning 8.00am - 11.30am by appointment on referral
by your
doctor.
Contraception and Cervical Smears
All methods of contraception are available at the Health
Centre including fitting contraceptive devices. Teenagers
are welcome to use this service and this like all services
provided by the practice is confidential.
All women over the age of 25 are advised to have a cervical
smear every 3 years and women between the ages of 50 and
64 every 5 years. A reminder letter is sent for you to
make an appointment with the Practice Nurse when this is
due.
Over 75's
All patients over 75 years of age are invited to attend
for a health check. Our Practice Nurse or Health Visitor
will generally see you and we hope you will take up this
offer unless you are regularly seeing a doctor anyway.
Home visits can be arranged.
Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)
CAB hold regular surgeries at the Health Centre on alternate
Monday afternoons. Appointments should be booked direct
with CAB by phoning 01626 895460 between 9.30am and 12.00pm
